New
business
We have created project sheets (in the format
often required by Banks and donor organisations) to summarise work that
we have done or been working on for some time. A selection can be viewed

Designing
success
Faced with capital expenditure to maintain
improvements in the performance of their distribution networks, a number
of UK Distribution Network Operators have employed the services of BPI to
augment their own design and planning resources.
Our team, made up of experienced utility
engineers, provides a full, detailed design service for all voltages
between 11kV and 132kV, including provision of all drawings, to enable
construction either in house or by external suppliers. Where appropriate,
we also provide input at the initial planning phase to assist with
optimum network development. This work is supplemented by occasional in
depth studies and technical work on behalf of companies, the regulator
and Government.
This service is delivered from offices in Birmingham, Warrington
and Colchester. We also have engineers
and designers based in clients’ offices or on site as the work
demands.
Making
power sector reform work
In countries developing their power sector
infrastructure, delivering more affordable, available and reliable
electricity supplies involves more than technical and engineering
solutions.
As part of programmes to reform the power
sector, we have supplied teams of advisers to improve the market
structure, organisation and governance of the sector, and advised on the
establishment of new companies (formed from existing state assets) being
set up to deliver improved power supplies to customers. These have
included the establishment of Druk Hydropower Corporation (Bhutan
2004-5); corporatisation of the Dhaka Electric Supply Authority
(Bangladesh 2005 onwards); establishing the National Grid Company of
Nepal (2005 onwards); and developing the Transmission Company of Nigeria
(2005-7). The focus has been on building capability among those mangers
and engineers who will have the challenging task of improving the
performance of these new businesses - businesses that will be operating
in a more demanding, more commercial environment.
Power
network enhancement
We are working in support of those power
transmission and distribution companies who are to be recipients of loans
from the Asian Development Bank – the funds being dedicated to
extending and improving the performance of their power networks. Getting
the best value from this injection of funds is critical and BPI can
provide support to ensure schemes are technically sound, economically
viable and meet appropriate environmental and social impact standards.
Work took place in India
during 2006 and Pakistan
(2006, with a second project in 2007).
