Staff from BPI are enthusiastic contributors to the communities in which they live and work.
During 2010 we have partnered Colchester Institute in developing and delivering an HNC in Electrical Engineering, tailored to the needs of organisations in the electricity sector.
The availability of qualified power engineers has been a problem for some years in the UK, and although this has been acknowledged and much discussed (by the industry, professional bodies and Government) little of real practical value has been done to address it. We hope the HNC, which has been available at the Institute from September 2009, will be a small, practical step to improving the situation. It will, at the same time, improve the employment prospects of those students who study for the qualification independently.
Our role has been in working with the Institute to shape the programme, contributing to the teaching (on power engineering specific matters, where the Institute does not have the capability in-house), and offering project opportunities to students. The first class of students will complete the programme in 2011.
People from the Colchester Office have been enthusiastic supporters of the Catherine Bullen Foundation for some time. In 2010 the Dunstable Downs Charity Walk collected a total of £480. For more information about the charity see the following website: www.namibia-aid.org.uk.
We circulate an internal newsletter at BPI which gives an internal and informal (and sometimes amusing) perspective on our business and staff. Though not for publication, if you would like to find out more, contact us.
